Newman Parish Latin Classes

The Newman Parish Latin programme recommenced on Sunday, 3rd February 2019, following the Solemn Mass. The course in ecclesiastical Latin differs from previous years in its focus on liturgical texts, principally the Mass. Rather than a top down approach which teaches the rudiments of the language, then applies the knowledge piecemeal to liturgical and biblical texts, it is bottom up, examining the Latin of the Mass word by word, letting an overall sense of grammar and vocabulary emerge from concepts, grammar and vocabulary in actual words we use each week. This approach is sufficient to give a working knowledge of Latin, but also one tailored to the needs of students here. Handouts will be provided, and online resources available, but the basic text is your Sunday Missal. The programme follows the normal school terms, and a donation of $30 per term is requested. Please contact the Parish Secretary with any inquiries, or to register.
